Blues and Rock guitar lessons

Many names come to mind when one thinks about the electric guitar. Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Van Halen, Slash, and Jimmy Page are some of the most recognisable figures in rock history. We don’t know if you (or me) will be joining this list any time soon, but in the meantime, you can learn to play the music that wrote these names in stone. Rock music encompasses many different playing styles, but its roots can be traced back to blues.

Some of the most influential rock musicians have never received formal lessons, contributing to the popular belief that having a teacher or learning music theory could take your “authenticity” away. We believe that there is no such thing as being “self-taught.”. We constantly learn by imitation, and musicians without formal education also copy and mimic the music they are surrounded with. The issue is that this is an unconscious process for the most part, which also reinforces this blank canvas notion of creativity through which ideas spring one-directionally from the artist. Having said this, many notable musicians are quite aware of their influences and how their music has been shaped. They know how much is being “borrowed” and acknowledge that this is essential to their learning process. Just because someone did not tell them how to play a particular song doesn't mean they learnt it from thin air.

Playing blues and rock

A good instructor will do nothing but bring out the best in you. If you have any particular preference for a specific genre or player, we can accommodate this. There is nothing more satisfying than the energy produced by your amplifier. Let yourself be hit by the sound that has shaken many generations. We will make sure that you are safe during the lessons! Many of our students already play in bands, so this is something that you can achieve too.
